Monday Children’s Book Reviews for June 11, 2012

Today we forego the book reviews and talk about SUMMER!

Alameda County’s 2012 Summer Reading Game is “Reading is So Delicious“. Sign up starting Monday, June 11, take your game board home, and start reading!

Sign up for the FIRST EVER Build-Your-Own Musical Instrument Summer Day Camp! The camp, for kids aged 6 – 12, will run 1:30-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 25-29 at the Union City Library. You will make and play a REAL musical instrument. This is for school-age children, registration is required, and you must commit to attend each day of the program. As with all Library programs, this is FREE and all materials and instruction are supplied.

Entering grades 5 – 9 next school year? Become a KidPower volunteer! Help with programs and the Summer Reading Game, and get Community Service credit. If you missed the KidPower orientations, come in to the Library anyway; it’s not too late!

Traditionally we do not present our usual Toddler and Preschool Story time programs during the summer as we concentrate on the Reading Game and family programming. However we do have a four-week Toddler-Preschool Stories and Blocks series scheduled Wednesday mornings, 10:30-11:30 a.m.July 11 – August 1. A half-hour of stories, songs, and fingerplays will precede a Duplo Lego block play period. No registration required, just come in and have fun! For kids five and under and their families.

We have some wonderful, exciting Saturday programs planned for the entire family!

  • June 23               2 p.m.          Ventriloquist Steve Chaney
  • July 7                   2 p.m.          Drummmmm
  • July 21                 1 p.m.           Carnival of Chaos
  • August 4             2 p.m.           Puppet Art Theater

All programs are funded in part by the Friends of the Union City Library and the Alameda County Library Foundation. No registration, just come and enjoy!
