It’s not too late to read the amazing story of Greg Mortenson, mountain climber turned humanitarian in time for our next book discussion. Union City Library staff will be at Paddy’s Coffee 3900 Smith St. in old Alvarado www.paddyscoffee.com on Tuesday January 20th from 7-9 p.m. to lead a community discussion of this amazing story of how one person can make the world a better place.
Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin was chosen for the One Community One Book Reading Program this year by the Union City Library and The New Haven Unified School System in a joint partnership to promote the enjoyment of reading the same book by the entire community at the same time. On this year of the 50th birthday of the City of Union City join us in a lively discussion of a great book. Copies of the book are available for checkout with your library card at www.aclibrary.org.
A new young adult edition of the book will be coming out this month that will be appropriate for students in grades 4 and up N.Y. Puffin 2009. You can place a hold on a copy on the Library website now to receive the book when it comes in. Greg Mortenson will visit Union City and Fremont on Tuesday March 3rd! Tickets will be available online at Active.com beginning on January 24th. The American Association of University Women Fremont Branch has been organizing a service project that supports building schools for children in rural Pakistan and Afghanistan through the Pennies For Peace program www.penniesforpeace.org.
