On This Day in Union City’s History

Did you know that Union City officially became incorporated as a City on January 26th, 1959? The Union City 50th Birthday Celebration will present a reenactment of the event tonight in the same location where it happened 50 years ago.

This happens to be Cesar Chavez/Barnard-White Middle School. That was the location of the very first City Council meeting back in the day. You can take the family there this evening to see the Mayor and City Council of today reenact the resolution of incorporation. There will also be a time capsule from 25 years ago that will be opened up. A new time capsule from 2009 will be sealed for future generations to open up.

There will also be interesting guest speakers that have played significant roles in Union City at some point in the past 50 years.

If you haven’t seen the website for the Union City 50th Celebration check it out at http://www.unioncity50.com/
