Did you know that President Obama is getting reading to launch a campaign to encourage everybody to do some public service in their community? There is a new website that keeps you informed at www.serve.gov You can find all kinds of volunteer opportunities or list your non-profit group project.
At your Union City Library there are opportunities right now for middle school students, teens and adults to volunteer in many activities. Middle school students in grades 6-8 can sign up for the “Kid Power” program and assist with the summer reading game. For more information about “Kid Power” email Patricia Ryan firstname.lastname@example.org or call 510-745-1464 X 7.
Teens who need community service hours for high school can pick up a volunteer application at the Library information desk any time the Library is open. They receive community service credit for their hours completed at the Library helping with a variety of tasks including shelving, sorting, assisting with children’s craft programs, or with book sales.
Adults who have extra time and would like to volunteer are also welcome to apply. We especially need people with computer skills to assist the public in using the internet and learning basic computer skills.
Pick up an application today and attend a volunteer orientation held every Thursday at 4 p.m.
See you there!
