Union City: Creating Community Through Art

Why is self expression through art important for youth? Find out at our community family arts day at the Union City Library on Saturday March 5th from 1-4 PM. We will have a display of winning poster art by students in the New Haven Unified School District. This year the theme is how to help the environment and the Earth. Take a tour of our wall mural painted by James Logan High School students in the teen area of the Library and meet the artists.  Find out how much fun it can be to create a new artwork out of an old discarded book at our Family Altered Books Workshop with artists Marion Coleman and Marjorie DeQuincy http://marioncoleman.blogspot.com. Experience the colorful and energizing dance of Ollin Anahuac Aztec Dancers of Union City http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ollin-Anahuac-Aztec-Dance-Group/180566655309591.  Creating Community Through Art is part of ART IS EDUCATION, an annual celebration of youth arts learning in Alameda County during Arts Education Month. Presented through a partnership between Alameda County Library, the Alameda County Arts Commission and the Alliance for Arts Learning Leadership. Funded in part by the Friends of the Union City Library. For more information about the annual event go to www.artiseducation.org.
