Monday Children’s Book Reviews for August 1, 2011

Just a few more short weeks of summer! You still have time to play and win the Summer Reading Game, One World, Many Stories. Many fun programs are scheduled, and they are all free!

It’s not too late to take a vacation, or have fun locally visiting parks and museums. In fact, you can borrow free passes to several area museums just by having a Library card! Call your local Library branch for availability. The Union City Library currently has passes for the Asian Art Museum and the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco, the Bay Area Discovery Museum in Sausalito, and the Oakland Museum. The passes are available on a first-come-first-served basis; you can call the Library [510-745-1464 ext. 7] and if it’s available that day we can hold it for a short time.

Family movie night can be inexpensive fun. Plan ahead to get your favorite films at the Library. You might have to wait until our copy is returned or we get one sent from another branch. Don’t forget — it doesn’t cost anything to request Library materials! Just don’t forget come and get it, or let us know you won’t be able to pick it up.

So relax, borrow a good book from the Library, find a shady place outdoors, and read! Play and win the Summer Reading Game, and plan a fun day at MOCHA, the Charles Schulz Museum, Chabot Space and Science Center, or the Lawrence Hall of Science.

Before you know it, the back-to-school shopping will begin!
