Monday Children’s Book Reviews for December 31, 2012

You’ve opened all the gifts and had time to enjoy the new toys, books, and clothes. Now it’s time to practice your ETIQUETTE! Many people think etiquette is outmoded, old fashioned, BORING! But actually it’s just a way to make you, and everyone around you, feel more comfortable and confident.

Etiquette includes manners, and it is good manners to thank people who give you something or do something for you. This time of year is a good time to think about writing thank you notes to all those people who thought enough about you to choose, shop for, wrap, and deliver something special just for you.

Thanks Aunt Zelda!: Thank You Cards for Kids to Craft by Cynthia MacGregor

Thanks, Aunt Zelda! introduces the etiquette of saying ‘thank you’ and teaches children of all ages how to write the perfect thank-you card for any occasion.”  [J745.5941 MACGREGOR]

Whoopi’s Big Book of Manners by Whoopi Goldberg

“Whoopi schools kids on oh-so-important manners like…courtesy words, cleaning up after oneself, covering one’s mouth, knocking, how (and how not) to interrupt, apologizing, table manners, cell phone use, rudeness at the movies, and how to be a good sport.”               [J395.122 GOLDBERG]

You don’t give gifts, or do things for people, in order to be thanked. But it is a very nice feeling when someone thanks you, and shows you how much your thoughtfulness is appreciated.
