Monday, May 27, 2013 is Memorial Day
“The holiday got started on May 30, 1868, when Union General John A. Logan declared the day an occasion to decorate the graves of Civil War soldiers. Twenty years later, the name was changed to Memorial Day. It is an occasion to honor the men and women who died in all wars.” http://www.timeforkids.com/news/meaning-memorial-day/40391
Observe this important commemoration at one of many local events.
Summer is quickly approaching, and there are only one and a half weeks of school left. If you are looking for something fun to do, and you are going to be in grades 5 through 12 next year, consider being a KidPower volunteer at the Union City Library! We ask you to commit to working at least eight hours – although you are definitely welcome to put in many more! Have fun while earning community service hours, and help out the Library at the same time.
Two orientations meetings are scheduled:
- Friday, May 31, 4-5 p.m.
- Saturday, June 8, 1-2 p.m.
You only need to attend one, so come and join KidPower and help with our summer programming and with this year’s Summer Reading Game
