The Union City Library is part of the Alameda County Library system which has ten branches plus Bookmobile service.

Union City Library is located in the Civic Center complex adjacent to City Hall and across from James Logan High School. Serving a population of nearly 67,000 residents of the City of Union City as well as the nearby communities of Fremont, Hayward, and Newark, the library offers a collection of over 101,000 items. Special features of the collection include a growing international languages collection including items in Chinese, Farsi, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Punjabi, Spanish, and a Filipiniana collection.

Partnering with the City of Union City has afforded the opportunity for open hours every day of the week, and The Union City Branch has the third largest circulation of library materials in the Alameda County Library system.

Other services for the public include free internet access computers, free wireless internet access, typewriters, photocopier and text enlarger. A meeting room is available for use by community groups free of charge. The Library has an active Friends group and welcomes volunteers.
