Join the Union City community and students and teachers of New Haven Unified School District in reading Three Cups of  Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin.  This is such an interesting and inspirational account of the journey of one man who has spent the last 10 years working to make a difference in the lives of many children in the poor mountain areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Find out what obstacles he faced and how he overcame them on his remarkable journey.

After reading the book, please join us for one of two upcoming book discussions. On Sunday February 8th from 2-3:30 at Union City Library 34007 Alvarado-Niles Rd. there will be an open discussion of the book led by members of the American Association of University Women. www.aauwfremontbranch.org.

Teens are invited to join in a discussion of the book on Friday February 20th from 4-5:30 p.m. This one will also be at the Union City Library. There is a new young adult version of the book just coming out now. Teens may want to read the new version. It is adapted and appropriate for students in grades 4 and up. Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson, David Oliver Relin, adapted by Sarah Thompson: published by Puffin, Jan 2009. It costs $8.99 for the paperback edition.  It will be available soon for checkout at most locations of Alameda County Libraries www.aclibrary.org

After reading the book, plan to come to see author Greg Mortenson in person. He will be visiting Union City in a special assembly at James Logan High School on Tuesday March 3rd from 1-2 p.m.  Some seats will be available for adults also. They will be available online at www.active.com starting tomorrow January 24th.
